Is it because

Is it because I am a girl I have to wear a skirt?

While all the boys get to wear pants and a shirt

Is it because I am a girl I have to be silenced?

While all the most men do is encourage war and violence

Why do I have to settle down and start a family?

All I want to do is to explore the lands, oceans plains and seas

It is unfair that we are not allowed to vote

Is it because you think we will rock the boat?

We are much more intelligent than we look

Do you honestly think we cannot read a book?

Why is it we cannot have a family and hold a career?

You can do both while drinking a few beers

Though you try to hold us down

Our voices will never be silenced

We do not wish to promote war and violence

All we want to do is help

And change the world for the better

We don’t mean to be so attacking

We just thought you should know

Star: Informs people that women are more than just frilly skirts and long hair, and that we are smart and strong, and can do more than cook.
Star:Well written, strong wording, I like the overall message of this poem.
Wish: I wish it rhymed, rhyming poems are my favourite.

i like how you di the comparison of the boys and to the girls.

it says that girls cna do anything and that we are just as good as boys are. it’s a very important subject.

i wish that all over the world people would stop treating girls like animals nad more like human beings.

I like how there is a comparison of boys and girls so people don’t have to think of differences.
Theres is a solution to every problem mentioned.
But most countries in the world allow women to vote after 1930’s. At the exception of Muslim countries, most countries allow women to vote (I think).

What a phenomenal poem! I’m going to share it with my fourth graders who will be studying gender issues this quarter in social studies.
